Teddyvac is a Diphtheria and Tetanus (Td) vaccine for adolescents (10 to under 18 years) and adults (18 to 60 years). Tetanus causes painful muscle stiffness and spasms; diphtheria can cause breathing difficulty, heart failure, and death — Teddyvac contains inactivated toxoids from both bacteria, prompting the immune system to build protective antibodies against both diseases without causing them. Given as a single 0.5ml intramuscular injection (preferred site: deltoid muscle), it is recommended as a booster at age 10 and 16 after the primary DPT series, then every 10 years thereafter, and can also be used for tetanus prophylaxis in wound management. Most people experience only mild, short-lived injection-site soreness; serious reactions are rare. Not given during severe acute febrile illness, and Td during pregnancy is per your doctor's guidance under national immunization recommendations to protect the newborn against tetanus.
